About the Map
Voting America's maps in Google Earth provide a county-level portrait of how Americans have voted in every U. S. presidential election since 1980. Here you can find the vote totals and winner of every county in the country, paired with demographic information (such as racial, economic, and age breakdowns) for people in those same counties. The result is a powerful ground-level view of U. S. presidential politics over the last three decades. About the Voting America Project: Based at the University of Richmond's Digital Scholarship Lab, Voting America is a project that explores the evolution of presidential politics in the United States across the span of American history. The driving question behind Voting America has been: if we could look deeply into how people have voted, what would that tell us about American democracy? The project, therefore, seeks to move beyond the Electoral College and state-level analysis of presidential elections, looking instead at the county level in order to gain a more detailed and granular understanding of how Americans vote.
